Several seconds for icons to appear and dissappear from the dock

The icons take several seconds to appear and disappear from the dock. The dock has been showing this behavior from time to time without apparently reason since day zero.

show-mounts is set to false.

If you're sure that show-mounts is set to false then the next step I would recommend is to see if the parent project has the same bug:

  sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock

and then use the Extensions app to disable Ubuntu Dock and enable Dash To Dock.

If the same bug is seen there then it should be reported to the developers at: https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-dock/issues

The same problem is happening, so there's no doubt it's a Dash To Dock bug.
