Bug Description

Binary package hint: mc

mc and gnome-terminal do not cooperate on the F10 key.

I launch mc in a gnome-terminal window. The F10 key should act with mc, but drops the file menu in the gnome-terminal. F10 in midnight commander is the Exit function.

When I call the Exit function in mc via the "other means", Exit works properly.
I press Esc + 0.

I can't confirm this bug.

That is why in Gnome Terminal: "Edit->Shortcut" there are an option for deactive the F10 key, activated by default.

See #198628 (disabling F10 doesn't work), perhaps the reporter is hit by that one?

F10 is a default shortcut in Gnome. Many applications are affected by this behaviour e.g. mc htop. As David Cordero reported (2 years ago) the solution is to disable the F10 key going to "Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts... " and deactivating the F10 key.

For the benefit of anyone who finds this looking for advice on getting Gnome to pass function keys to an application: another solution is to use the mouse and click on the F10 label. This works in HTOP, for example.

It also helps to use the built in help -- e.g., HTOP accepts "q" as a substitute for F10 generally -- but it's had to RTFM using Gnome terminal, because Gnome hijacks F1, too, and brings up a system help window. There doesn't seem to be any way to turn that interception off. Even if the Keyboard Shortcut for desktop help is changed from "help" (btw, my keyboard doesn't have a "help" key; does yours?), the terminal application still intercepts F1.

I would file the F1/F10 issue as a partly-addressed design problem w/ Gnome Terminal, rather than as a bug.

What you are even talking about, man? Have a look at keyboard shortcuts settings.

It still does not work. I'm getting mad about that. Gnome-terminal does not react to change in shortcut settings.
