Bug Description

This started happening within the last few days. To reproduce, open Krita or Gimp and paint for a random amount of time. Eventually pen input will stop. Seems to be random but so far happens between 0 - 10 minutes of using the pen on the display.

I can get pen input to work again by power cycling my cintiq monitor. But eventually pen input will stop working again after power cycling the monitor.

I did a fresh install of Kubuntu 20.04 to see if this would clear up, unfortunately a fresh install doesn't seem to fix the problem.

I am not entirely sure where to start troubleshooting this. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the application I am using, since both Gimp and Krita are affected by this. After the bug occurs, lsusb shows that the device is still connected. I will attach system and xorg log files in case these can help identify the problem. Please let me know how to get additional troubleshooting information if needed.

I completely removed the Nvidia driver installed by Kubuntu. Now running nouveau for my display. Been drawing/painting for about 30 minutes, and everything seems to be working fine now, even though it drawing and painting is painfully slow.

It seems that this may actually be related to the nvidia driver I was using. I will double check, but do problems sometimes come up when either the wacom driver or the nvidia driver updates? Would the nvidia driver report a crash in a log somewhere when this happens?

Small update. I have tried multiple Nvidia drivers that are available in the repositories. Same behavior between versions. I understand that this isn't a guarantee but maybe this isn't an issue with nvidia.

Another update. I switched to a display port cable as opposed to usb-c, and I was drawing and painting for a couple hours without issue. Switching to usb-c was something that happened recently, which would explain why I hadn't encountered the problem until recently.

It looks like there may be some specific issue with my combination of using usb-c for my wacom cintiq pro 24 display and the Nvidia RTX 2080 ti as my display adapter.
