Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

1. System => Administration => Networking;
2. Unlock it;
3. Select PPP device, choose Properties;
4. In General tab, check "Enable this connection" and fill out needed properties for connection;
5. In Modem tab, choose modem according to your needs. The same for Options tab;
6. Click "OK", configuration window closes;

Actual results: For four five secs network-admin shows PPP device configured, but not enabled. After that, it strangely changes back to "device is not configured" message and "Enable this connection" is unchecked in configuration window, altough some part of configuration is left;

Expected results: PPP device is configured and left for user to enable it at will;

Thanks for your report, which version of Ubuntu and gnome-system-tools are you running? Does the same happens with Hardy? Is there any output on the console if you run the application from it? thanks in advance.

I got this bug in Hardy. Yet, what is more interesting, now after week I can't change even wired network settings, as they got dropped silently too, in similar behaviour.

Question is - do this happens on clean install? I have Hardy from Alpha 3 and have updated it regularly. As I know, usually such strange bugs usually appears when buggy updates happens.

My testing session with gst guys at #gst channel in freenode suggest that system-tools-backends with policykit is to blame. Changes don't get authorisated, even if authorisation with user and password is successful in the begining.

I will try to do this with clean user and clean install and then will confirm is this really a bug.
