thunderbird drag-n-drop move messages fails on Wayland

On Ubuntu 21.04 when I use Thunderbird, drag-n-drop sometimes fails to work when moving messages. I attempt to drag a message (or a collection of messages) from one folder to another, but the attempt to drag fails and nothing happens.

This occurs when I use the default (Wayland) login. The problem does not occur when I use X.org login.

The problem is intermittent; it may take a few moves for the failures to start occurring.

I reported this issue in bug#1934185 but that bug report is primarily about Ubuntu Dock and I was asked to file a separate bug report about Thunderbird.

To file this bug report, I ran "ubuntu-bug" under X.org but the bug actually occurs only under Wayland.

Not sure if same bug but I'm consistently having problems dragging attachments onto Thunderbird compose windows w/21.10 and Wayland (Thunderbird running as Xwayland).

Joe, this sounds like a different issue from the one originally reported here.

A cursory glance at the upstream bugs for drag'n'drop didn't find matching issues.

In https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1977715 I also report that it sometimes fails. But in my case Thunderbird becomes completely unresponsive.

Could be related.
