Bug Description

Hi,

After last patch in Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS, I have lost my audio.

I have got an Asus monitor with speakers inside the monitor. The sound come to the monitor from the HDMI cable.

My GPU is an GTX 1080 Ti.

I have got a KVM Switch in which is connected my monitor, Keyboard and Mouse.

Before the last update of Ubuntu, all worked well.

When I go to settings in Ubuntu, I couldn't watch any audio device check the image attached.

Regards.

You forgot to install linux-modules-extra package, the audio driver is in that package.

Why do I need to install nothing when an Ubuntu Update is installed?

It has no sense. The Ubuntu Update must have all the things that the update need.

I have installed this:

sudo apt install linux-generic
and this:
sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-20.04

but it doesn't work.

you installed 20.04 on your machine, but the kernel version in your log is 5.11.0-generic, how did you install the 5.11 kernel under 20.04, I remember it is 5.8 kernel under 20.04 if you run update.

I only run the updates of Ubuntu. I have not installed the last kernel by myself.

Maybe in the past I have changed something that generate that this situation happen, but I don't remember something similar.

Are you sure that Ubuntu is not installing the 5.11 kernel by themself?

I came back to the kernel 5.8.0-59-generic configuring this in the Grub and I have got the sound again.

But the problem still exists in the 5.11 kernel.

Please upload the output of 'dpkg -l | grep linux-modules-extra*', let us see if you install that package for kernel 5.11.
