Bug Description

Hello, i am having problem with very low RX speeds on my Fujitsu U7130 laptop's wired network with Intel I219-LM chip. When i start downloading any larger content, the speed is very low (ranging from 150kbps-6Mbps) or even the transfer completely stops. RX_errors are rising as well as rx_crc_errors when checking with "ethtool -S enp0s31f6". Link speed is auto-negotiated to 1000Mbps and lowering the speed manually is not having any effects on this issue. Wired TX speeds seems to be unaffected. Wireless speeds on the AX201 are as expected too.

I did try to solve this problem upgrading from Ubuntu 20.04 to 21.04 and using various kernels (5.8, 5.10, 5.11, 5.12.9). I also tried to compile e1000e driver from sourceforge version 3.8.7 (https://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000/) with no joy.

Bug #1927925 seems to be related as the behavior is the same, but in this case booting with kernel parameter "intel_idle.max_cstate=1" will not resolve the issue.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1931442/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

I have found workaround to get LAN working. On Ubuntu kernel 5.11.0-18-generic if i boot up system and log in - LAN is not working correctly - CRC errors etc. If laptop is put into hibernate (save to swap partition), then turned on and system state restored from hibernation, LAN adapter is working as expected without any errors. Confused...

Hello Kai-Heng,

i have tested provided kernel and it still suffers from slow speed. Also noticed, that if i run iperf3 multiple times, it works in one-two passes and then it slows down to crawl. Then again on the next pass it works as expected. Please see attached outputs.

After doing hibernation "trick" iperf3 is working fine every time.

Hi, it is the same as with the previous kernel 5.13.0-1004. Also since 5.13.x touchpad stopped working (using i2c_hid module). Iperf and dmesg attached. Thank you.

Does changing MTU help?

Revision history for this message
Daniel Barta (lk7r) wrote :

No it does not, tried to go from 1500 to 9000 and then to 1300 and 1000. No change at all. Only if i start TX from the LAN interface, then RX is working as expected. As soon as TX stops, RX comes to crawl. I have attached iper3 log to show this. The times when speed is in MBits is when i started iperf3 on another port in TX direction from laptop. Thank you.

Hi, no suspend does not help. Tested with your 5.13.0-3004 kernel and 5.11.0-22-generic. Dmesg attached.
