VNC Password cleared on reboot

Bug Description

Password is set using the Screen Sharing settings... Screen sharing works till next machine reboot. After reboot the password entry is cleared in the settings and cannot connect anymore.

The following line appears in syslog:
May 15 09:53:37 alpha gnome-remote-de[1512]: Couldn't retrieve VNC password: Password not set

Setting the password again in settings solves the problem... but this isn't very helpful on a machine which is meant to run headless.

Thanks,
J.

Thank you for your bug report. Could you perhaps report it upstream as well on https://gitlab.gnome.org/jadahl/gnome-remote-desktop/issues ?

affects: vino (Ubuntu) → gnome-remote-desktop (Ubuntu)

Status update, the upstream project moved to the GNOME namespace so the url there was wrong, the issue is also already reported upstream as https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-remote-desktop/-/issues/27

Changed in gnome-remote-desktop (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Triaged

I can confirm this also in Ubuntu 21.04 (arm64) for Raspberry Pi 4.

1- Enable Screen sharing
2- Require password (fill the password)
3- Select network
4- Close the window

On my laptop, open remmina and create a new VNC connection to the raspberry pi. Click Save & Connect and it is successfully connecting. Then click restart on raspberry pi

Once restart complete and desktop is shown, I open remmina again and click connect to the VNC connection I previously created. Unfortunately remmina complains that "Authentication failed". Then I check Ubuntu on raspberry pi and see that it has the share screen enabled, with Require Password, but the field is empty.

This issue is also present in Ubuntu 22.04. It affects me, and I noticed that multiple questions on AskUbuntu relate to this topic.

It same on 22.10, I assume since the upstream is the issue. As NLin there is plenty of comment on AskUbuntu
