When player leaves in the middle of a round, their wall continues to stay. You can drive through it no problem, most of the time without hesitation.

What version of server and client, and what settings? With everything from 0.2.8 current SVN, I get the expected behavior: the cycle of the leaving client explodes, and the wall fades away after the usual timeout.
