Bug Description

IrDA modules, including mcs7780.ko are missing.

Currently using:
Linux ***** 5.4.0-72-generic #80-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 12 17:35:00 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The module is present in older versions of Ubuntu, in /lib/modules/[kernel version]/kernel/drivers/net/irda/mcs7780.ko

Is there another module that currently supports USB IrDA devices with this chip? Has it moved?

lsmod
Bus 001 Device 013: ID 9710:7780 MosChip Semiconductor MCS7780 4Mbps Fast IrDA Adapter

It's very unusual to see a Linux Dist drop support like this with no way back (short of building a new kernel).

Apologies if I am just missing something.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1926861/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
