Bug Description

Running Gutsy on a Dell Dimension desktop. Ever since since upgrade from Feisty , opera at times refuses to accept keyboard input , I can open new tabs and browse . I can even paste input by using the middle button of the mouse (but not ctrl+V or right-click-paste) but cannot input anything else. If I restart Opera the problem disappears but can sometimes reappear after a few minutes.. The is no special input or errors in the terminal. I installed Gutsy for my friend on a Thinkpad and he experiences the same situation. We are both using SCIM on Gnome to input Chinese/Japanese in an English language session. The reason I mention SCIM is because a similar problem was reported here : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=689583 and SCIM is suggested as the culprit.

When was the problem first noticed?
Is there a solution yet?

Same problem here, Kubuntu Gusty amd64 with skim. Opera (9.50 Beta 2, Build 1887) and 32-Bit Flash plugin.

Starting Opera from the shell I get a bunch of
Gtk-WARNING **: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libqtengine.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
and
Gtk-WARNING **: Loading IM context type 'xim' failed.

After a while it says:

opera: Plug-in 6315 is not responding. It will be closed.
opera: Define environment variable OPERA_KEEP_BLOCKED_PLUGIN to keep blocked plug-ins

At this time Opera refuses keyboard input. I my case 'Plug-in 6315' is operapluginwrapper-ia32-linux.

As a workaround you could try to start Opera with: XMODIFIERS=@im=none QT_IM_MODULE=xim opera
(but you won't be able to input characters with skim or scim) or: OPERA_KEEP_BLOCKED_PLUGIN=true opera

Just my two cents,

update:
I installed the Opera 10 development snapshot a few weeks ago. No problem anymore. Everthing worked right out of the box. So it is probably an Opera version < 10.x problem.

I will post details later.

I am using Opera 10 in Intrepid 64 bit. I have a similar problem but not same with David.S.F, my opera problem start when i change to other desktop and then back to opera. However, it can be solved temporarily when i roll up the opera and unroll it back. Sometime has to roll up and unroll it a few times to be able to use the keyboard again.
