Bug Description

hi,
Using Inkscape 0.46 downloaded 2008/02/02 for windows when creating text the font selection menu drop down list does not retract when a font is selected. The font size drop down list works perfectly but every time the font list needs a click somewhere else to get the menu to go away. This does not happen in 0.45.1. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with all recent updates, 2 cpu, 2 Gb.

Actually, no, that bug fixed a problem where the drop-down had no effect if a selected font was not installed. The issue reported here is still a problem (under Fedora 8), in the latest SVN (Rev 17490). The best way to dismiss the dropdown is to hit enter.

I think this might actually be covered at another bug, come to think of it...

I think the bug I was thinking of is bug 168161 : "font dropdown steals focus ruthlessly". Please comment here if this is not the exact issue you are seeing...

I downloaded version 0.46 (0.45+0.46pre2+devel, built Feb 21 2008) just last evening. When working with it this evening I discover that I can't select another font. Arial is the only one I can use.

1. Select the Text object tool.
2. Click on the Font drop down.
3. Select a font from the list.
4. Font shows in the field and that it is selected but the drop down doesn't close.
5. Click some where on the page.
6. Font drop down closes but the selected font reverts back to Arial.

I have quit Inkscape several times and tried this but get the same results every time. The first time I discovered this was after typeing some text and selecting it and trying to change the font to another one.

I'm working on a Window Vista machine.

I am also seeing this issue, exactly as described by StevenD. I am on Windows XP sp2 FWIW. Not sure if this is actually some sort of GTK version compatibility issue? (I have pidgin and gimp installed on the machine as well)

If any dev can comment on an ETA for a fix, that would be awesome.

thanks!

Why is this bug not fixed? It's an absolute showstopper and affects me on multiple machines.

First, your comment is not really helpful, and if anything is more likely to get people offside rather than promote its resolution. The short answer is because people are busy with lots of things, including life, and this is a volunteer effort.

Second, you would have noticed, like I did when I went to comment on this bug, that the launchpad site clearly displays a message indicating that this is a duplicate of another bug. It says "Remember, this bug report is a duplicate. Comment here only if you think the duplicate status is wrong." If you look up at the top you'll see that's https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/168161 - and that one has received lots of attention over the last few days.
