gradle can't be run from /bin/gradle

Upon a fresh install of gradle, the executable installs to /usr/share/gradle/bin/gradle, and attempts to symlink to /bin, but the symlink is to the wrong directory. It symlinks to ../share/gradle/bin/gradle instead of /usr/share/gradle/bin/gradle , which in turn breaks gradle from running from the path. When running gradle by giving the full path, everything works as normal.
