Bug Description

In the latest Hardy kernel, there is no longer an isight_usb needed to use the iSight.

uvc_video tries to take over and fails:

[ 155.991152] uvcvideo: No valid video chain found.
[ 155.991379] usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
[ 155.991384] USB Video Class driver (v0.1.0)
[ 156.550699] usbcore: deregistering interface driver uvcvideo

Hi John,

It does appear that this is missing in Hardy linux-ubuntu-modules. I'll have the kernel team take a look. Thanks.

The iSight patch was merged with uvcvideo, although as of latest 2.6.24-8 the firmware loader isn't working (fails getting control from USB).

Maybe this report should be marked as invalid?

Is there a bug report open for the firmware loader not working? If not, then this bug's description should be edited as a regression (iSight no longer works in Hardy), not marked "invalid".

I think this might be the same as https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24/+bug/185634. Anyone want to confirm?

Hi John,

bug 185634 seems to be regarding failure to load the firmware. I didn't notice this sort of srror message in the output you included. Although, I'm not sure which version of linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 your are using. Care to try the latest release (2.6.24-8.13 at the time of this post) and confirm the issue from the other bug report? We can then go ahead and mark this as a duplicate of that. Thanks.

Well, apparently my error message is a result of the firmware not being loaded,
so I'd consider it the same thing. I also reconfirmed it on the very latest
Hardy kernel so let's mark it a duplicate and triage that report with an
appropriate urgency level.
