Confirming, this happens when accessing the floppy drive from the Places menu.

Allso happens to me, when trying to access "CD-RW/DVD+-RW Drive" from Places menu. Allso Gnome doesn't auto-mount dvd's for me, but sees them when I mount them manually. I have

/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0

in fstab. After manual mount, Places menu has allso "cdrom" which I can then access.

I actually got it working for me, kind of.
I played a lot with hald and dbus ( sudo /etc/init.d/dbus restart etc.) and managed to fuck up gnome. After restarting X the DVD actually mounted (I think it was automatic). I had removed the /dev/scd0 line from fstab, so gnome mounted it with the DVD-label DVD#1. When ejecting from gnome, and inserting DVD#2 it still gets mounted as DVD#1, and not automatically. I have to access it from nautilus, then it mounts fine (but with wrong label). There allso seems not to be any lock on opening the dvd-bay manually, which I remember being there.

I have needed to log out and back in again couple of times now, but seem to get things working for a little bit again.
