Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

If I am trying to open a .doc file from nautilus with openoffice on a password protected SMB share, it works great.

But if the SMB share is public, so no user/password is needed to connect to it, openoffice fails to open if with 'General internet error' message.

Meanwhile, if I do specify my user name and password explicitly (smb://kpeter@servername/foo/bar), openoffice is able to open the file. And after successfully opening the file, subsequent attempts to open the same file without specifying the user name also works.

(Note: I have saved my smb password in gnome keyring.)

In my interpretation it seems that
- if gnome vfs is connected without username to the SMB server then openoffice fails to open anything with 'General internet error' message.
- if gnome vfs is connected with username/password to the SMB server then openoffice opens files OK.

This problem no longer appears to exist on Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy) with openoffice.org 1:2.3.1-3ubuntu3.
