Bug Description

Open Qterminal, right click on the application, select preferences, scroll down to "Start with preset" and pick "2 terminals horizontally". Click apply or OK. Close Qterminal and open it again. It opens with just a single terminal.

I've checked in the error logs and didn't see anything.

Thank you for reporting this bug, and helping to make Lubuntu better.

I can only comment, your exploration (and testing) of the system is further than my own, as I tend to concentrate on things I use, and think I'd use for various use-cases I can imagine, so well done & thank you.

I had a quick play of this on my hirsute system, and behavior is as you say, however I don't know what should happen (it isn't what I'd expect from the selection dialogs though).

guiverc@d960-ubu2:~$ apt-cache policy qterminal
qterminal:
  Installed: 0.16.1-1ubuntu1
 *** 0.16.1-1ubuntu1 500
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute/universe amd64 Packages

I also had a play on a Debian Bullseye box, and got the same behavior

guiverc@d960-ubu2:~$ ssh 192.168.15.225 -C 'apt-cache policy qterminal'
qterminal:
  Installed: 0.16.1-1
 *** 0.16.1-1 500
        500 http://deb.debian.org/debian testing/main amd64 Packages

Whatever is supposed to happen, it occurs identically in Lubuntu as it does in Debian Bullseye with the ~same version in my short testing.

I didn't test in opensuse tumbleweed, however will on request if helpful, but I suspect it'll be the same.

I'd *expect* it to start and show two vertical terminals, like when you split it vertically from inside.

At the very least, I'd expect it to do *something* and it does nothing discernible to me. It does nothing discernible to me on 20.04 either.

@KGIII/David

I just opened a second tan in `qterminal` on my debian box (bullseye) and it opened with two panes horizontal... (it isn't doing this for the first tab though).

I'm getting the same reaction here now on Lubuntu (hirsute); only a single 'window' in the first tab, but two as selected on the second.

ie. it seems to be working for the second tab, but not the first (with Lubuntu's qterminal reacting exactly like Debian's)

(Not sure if you'd noticed this; I just discovered it by accident)

I have no idea why it's not working on the first tab. I'd say maybe it's just bad descriptions, but that doesn't make any sense. I'd expect it to work just like the 'open with preset' option, except for it to start that way. After all, that's exactly what it says it does.

Rather than edit, I'll add:

If that's the intended behavior, that really needs to be explained better. If that's the expected behavior...

You shouldn't have to discover it by accident.

Also, if that's the expected behavior, it's rather redundant.
