Firefox crashes and locks up X completely

Bug Description

Despite this affecting me for quite some time, I've been unable to pinpoint
exactly what behaviour induces it. When I have numerous tabs open, often with
images, and I click on links on a page while other tabs are loading, X will lock
up completely. The display freezes, but the machine is still running. Logging in
from another machine over SSH and killing firefox-bin sometimes works, but
usually I have to restart X by restarting GDM.

This happens quite a lot, for all users and at least once a day. In the meantime
I'm using Epiphany with no such behaviour occurring.

Are there any debug tools I can run to get more information about this?

I have experienced this recently while only having one tab open. It happened twice in short succession while using the site
www.nationalrail.co.uk which has a lot of, I think, java type bits and pieces.

Both times X locked up completely, including the keyboard, meaning that I had to do a painful hard reset. BTW, Opera in
windows also had problems with the site.

Hmm. Not sure I have any good ideas, but here are some questions:

What window manager are you using - the default ?
Do you have any plugins installed ? Can you try without ?
Can you easily see if it does it with a fresh profile (ie, move your .mozilla
aside) ?
Which of the configuration/preferences have you changed ?
Are there any sites that do it more than others ?

I'm going to assume this is due to some plugins (perhaps java or some such).
Please reopen it if the problem becomes reproduceable in Breezy.
