segmentation fault when scanning on arm64

Bug Description
I am running ubuntu 20.04 on a raspberry pi 4 2GB ram. I am trying to pair this with the HP ScanJet Pro 2000 s2.
hp-setup works, identifies the scanner and downloads the plugin.
sudo scanimage -L detects the scanner:
"device `hpaio:
(the serial number has been replaced with XXXXXX).
when i try to scan, I get segmentation fault. sudo scanimage -b > output.pnm:
Output format is not set, using pnm as a default.
Scanning infinity pages, incrementing by 1, numbering from 1

The above error occurs when using the distribution's HPLIP package (version 3.20.3). It also occurs when running ubuntu 20.10 on the raspberry pi 4, which packages version 3.20.5. Finally I built hplip from source using the autoinstaller to install dependencies and then patching the source to remove references to the ImageProcessor library (https:/
