Bug Description

ACPI works fine on this ASUS L4500R laptop, Fn keys works out of the box, but the battery status is not detected. It says it's always on AC power, though if I unplug the AC adapter the LCD brightness is dimmed correctly.

Hi Milo,

Can you provide the output of 'cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state' when you have the AC adapter plugged in and then when you have it unplugged? Not sure if this may be an issue with the kernel or the battery applet. Thanks.

Hi!

That directory is empty...

I have the `ac_adpter/AC0' directory with the `state' file.

Hi Milo,

Seems I missed noticing some ACPI error messages in your dmesg output. Sorry about that:

[ 24.146977] ACPI Error (psparse-0537): Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.SBRG.EC0_.RDC3] (Node d4c238e8), AE_TIME
[ 24.147019] ACPI Error (psparse-0537): Method parse/execution failed [\ECIO] (Node d4c23c78), AE_TIME
[ 24.147056] ACPI Error (psparse-0537): Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.BAT0._STA] (Node d4c23600), AE_TIME

The following upstream bug report: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9627 exhibitted similar errors. The patch which resolved that issue was shipped in upstream's
linux-2.6.24-rc7-git5. The Ubuntu kernel then pulled in this patch for the 2.6.24-5.8 Ubuntu kernel release. I see that you are running a custom built kernel (I assume because of the b43legacy issue you had in an other bug report). I believe the boot issue you had with b43legacy should be resolved now. Care to try installing and running the latest stock ubuntu kernel, 2.6.24-8.13, and report back your results. If the issue exists, please attach your dmesg output as well as the output of 'cat /proc/version_signature' for the newer kernel. Thanks!

If it could be of any help, I had opened a bug also on kernel bugzilla, it's 9399.

Bye.

Hi Milo,

Yes the upstream bug report does definitely help. I've gone ahead and linked this launchpad report to the upstream bugzilla report you made. I noticed there was a comment posted today to the upstream report mentioning a patch for you to try. Care to test and get back to them. We'll want to get this fixed upstream first and then we'll pull into the Ubuntu kernel. Thanks!
