To get the proper version of Firefox installed (for Ubuntu), I copied all of the
extracted firefox update files (from firefox-1.0.6.installer.tar.gz) to the
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox folder. Executed firefox-installer-bin, allowed the
installer to delete all of the install files (which emptied
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox folder, which I could of done myself if I knew the
installer would do that). I re-copied the extracted files back to the same
folder and installed firefox 1.0.6. Now, I have not problems reaching the
extensions page, and firefox displays 1.0.6 properly in the about: window.
Firefox also reports the proper version as 1.0.6.
