Bug Description

My system freezes when I'm in lockscreen. This happens every few hours after I leave the computer running some low to mediocre computation tasks, no memory problems. It does not happen when I run heavy tasks. I can only hard reboot, nothing else is working.

Thanks for the bug report.

1. Please check that you haven't enabled any additional GNOME extensions in the 'Extensions' app. There should only be the three built-in ones. If you have more than that then try uninstalling or disabling them.

2. Next time you have to "hard reboot", please then run this command in a Terminal window:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

3. Please also check for any recent crashes using these instructions: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

affects: xorg (Ubuntu) → ubuntu
Changed in ubuntu:
status: New → Incomplete
summary: - Xorg freeze
+ System freezes when in lockscreen
affects: ubuntu → gnome-shell (Ubuntu)

Thank you for the fast reply!

1. There are only the three built-in extensions.
2. See the attached file "prevboot.txt". There you can find three "-- Reboot --". Only the first and the third are "hard reboots" because of the mentioned bug.
3. There are no crash reports connected to this problem.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Next please try an older kernel series like:

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.4.92/

Because I've seen a few hints that the new 5.8 kernel in focal might be causing problems for Intel graphics...

Good morning. Yes, this does not happen with 5.4.92. I reproduced the exact same situation that always made my system freeze with the 5.8 kernel. It has been running the whole night now and it did not freeze with 5.4.92.
