Bug Description

When logging into Ubuntu's main login screen there is a toggle to show the password (the little eye on the right side of the password input box). If the previous user enabled this when logging in and left this in an enabled state, that state will persist. The next user logging in, after the previous logged out, will type his or her password and it will be plainly visible on screen.

Consider that:

- Typing passwords is often routine (a new user might often not notice in time his or her password appears unmasked)
- The state of the eye icon might not be clear by itself
- Password masking not being enabled by default is not standard, and for good reason

This happens when logging into Ubuntu (Focal Fossa 20.04) on a default install.

Thanks for the bug report. Unfortunately I can't seem to reproduce this on 20.04, 20.10 or 21.04. I wonder what I am missing...

Also worth noting:

* Ubuntu 20.10 and 21.04 both seem to toggle (hide) the password as soon as you hit Enter.

* The GUI process (gnome-shell owned by user 'gdm') should vanish as soon as you log in. So it shouldn't remember anything. Maybe then the first problem is your login screen's gnome-shell process is hanging around?

Hi Daniel, as you can see I used the apport tool to send system information. I also checked if the `gnome-shell` process was still running. Here's the output of `ps aux | grep gdm | grep shell`, after login:

```
gdm 1215 0.6 0.5 4075932 165140 tty1 Sl+ 20:55 0:02 /usr/bin/gnome-shell
gdm 1266 0.0 0.0 2930264 26548 tty1 Sl+ 20:55 0:00 /usr/bin/gjs /usr/share/gnome-shell/org.gnome.Shell.Notifications
```

Seems like it is.

If I can further help investigating this issue. Let me know!
