I had to attach a second keyboard to boot 5.8. Unable to enter password at "please unlock disk sda6_crypt" with Roccat keyboard. Current 5.8 Kernel does show lights on the keyboard. 5.4 Kernel works fine.

"Is package "linux-modules-extra" installed?"

That fixed it. linux-modules-extra-5.4.0-62-generic was installed, linux-modules-extra-5.8.0-40-generic was not installed. I usually just run the Software Updater. However, after installing linux-modules-extra-5.8.0-40-generic, everything appears to be working. Thank you!

Hi! Thanks for all the information.

Can you describe how the 5.8 kernel was installed in this machine?

Is linux-generic-hwe-20.04 or linux-generic-hwe-20.04-edge installed?

Thank you!

I've attached a history log for the earliest time that I can see 5.8 showing up. I'm not sure if it came from an apt update or Synaptic. I've also checked Synaptic history which shows 01/09/21 Installed the following packages: linux-image-unsigned-5.8.0-36-generic (5.8.0-36.40~20.04.1). I believe that I tried to remove it when it was first causing the keyboard issue.

"Is linux-generic-hwe-20.04 or linux-generic-hwe-20.04-edge installed?"

linux-generic-hwe-20.04, no
linux-generic-hwe-20.04-edge, no

This is Xubuntu 20.04.1 LTS.

Hi, can you post the output for `dpkg -l | grep linux` in this machine?

Hi, can you also run the following commands:

apt-cache rdepends --installed linux-image-5.8.0-36-generic
apt-cache rdepends --installed linux-modules-nvidia-460-generic-hwe-20.04

Thank you.

Hi, bathynomusBLUE.

Can you send the complete output of `dpkg -l` (instead of grepping by linux). That should save us some round trips in these requests.

Thanks again!

Hi, bathynomusBLUE.

Have you tried to install the NVIDIA drivers manually recently?

I see linux-modules-nvidia-455-generic-hwe-20.04 and linux-modules-nvidia-460-generic-hwe-20.04 are installed but you don't have linux-generic-hwe-20.04 installed.

Thank you.

I added a new video card to the system. However, the Nvidia drivers would only have been installed through Software & Updates > Additional Drivers.
