Installation fails due to useless immediate configuration error when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected

Good day.

I hope you are well. Noob to Ubuntu Bug reporting. Apologies in advance for protocol violations

When my installation crashed I was brought to the bug reporting page... Hence the report

Hardware: ASUS Laptop was working fine with Ubuntu 18.04. Ran OS Generated update which damaged the OS and many apps stopped working. Tried repeatedly to remedy the situation but could not. Decided on a fresh install.

Decided on reinstalling 18.04 worked for a time but the NVIDIA drivers were causing problems. Initially they worked well but seemed to cause issues as time went on. Strange. Yes.

Decided to try reinstalling (same installation medium - USB stick) but could not get past the screen where it asks if you want to include 3rd party drivers. If I don;t use the 3rd party Ubuntu hangs randomly during use.

I decided to try 20.04. Kept hanging randomly at the select 3rd Party Drivers and sometimes sooner. After many attempts, I managed to get quite far down the road by adding "nomodeset" to the LINUX_DEFAULT bootloader line (the installation which prompted this bug report, until right near the end when the installer crashed and started Firefox, suggesting the bug report.

Hardware: ASUS FX 705 G
OS: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
RAM 32GB
SSD: 1TB NVMe SSD

Side note. Ubuntu installation on this laptop is very fragile. If the First attempt does not work one needs to get a new hard drive (It seems to not like a used HDD? ) and format and rebuild the USB Stick has been seen to help.
