Bug Description

Booting the Kubuntu 7.10 amd64 livecd and starting the installer results in 800+ artsd processes and a massive cpu load (8+ on a dual cpu system).

Only way to stop the process from spawning after trying killall artsd is to chmod -x /usr/bin/artsd and then run "for i in `ps auxf |grep artsd| awk '{print $2}'`; do kill -9 $i; done"

After that the installer becomes responsive again and finishes.

Is this still an issue in more recent releases of Kubuntu?

You need model=ecs202 with today's alsa-driver-unstable tarball.

Interesting. I fixed that problem with the most recent version of
pulseaudio, but the processes are still shown.

Thanks for the hint! I'll test it, when I get time to compile it.

KDE has stopped maintaining aRts so this won't be fixed.
