Reviewing the log file, /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log, from your upgrade attempt there was a failure to communicate with the mirror of the Ubuntu archive which you use. This could either be due to an issue with your connection to the mirror or with the mirror itself. Regardless, this is an issue you'll need to sort out by fixing your network connection or switching to a different mirror of the Ubuntu archive before the upgrade can complete. If after resolving the communication error with the mirror you are still unable to upgrade to a new release of Ubuntu please open a new bug report so we'll have fresh log files. Thanks and good luck!

Thanks for taking the time to report this upgrade failure. There is currently a new version of the release upgrader availalbe in -proposed which may resolve the error you've encountered. Please run the following command to test the new version of the upgrader:

  do-release-upgrade -p

Please lets us know the results in this bug report. Thanks again and good luck!

Uups, y just changed the header text of this bug:
I'm at release 14.04 and want go to 16.04 (in a way to finally arrive to 20.04 or something around that).

Ok, this is going in a weird direction.
I had (in 2020) an equal issue with a device going from 18.04 to 20.04. I left that behind doing a clean 20.04 install.
Now with another device I am not able to do a clean install (I am not able to backup the stuff in this device) then I will like to fix the same kind of issue.
The result of the command attached is from "this device" trying to go from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.01 as the first step to finally came to 20.04.

Really, this is not "my bug", but the subject is the same. I'm sorry I invaded here.
The follow up may help both of us *Juan Manuel*
