Bug Description

Binary package hint: kwin-kde4

Pressing Alt-Tab initiates the window switcher, but using Alt-Shift-Tab, you cannot go back there.

Test Case:
1. Press Alt-Tab, hold Alt
2. Now press Alt-Shift-Tab
3. Nothing happens

kwin from kde3 in kde4 works fine.

Does it by chance work for you right now? I just tested this and it works. I didn't even know this was an option until right now, thanks!

If it doesn't work, are you using Gutsy or Hardy?

It still does not work, using Kubuntu Hardy.

The same happens in Gnome, but only when desktop effects (Compiz) are enabled. When compiz is disabled in Gnome, Alt-Shift-Tab works.

With KDE4, there's no difference with enabled or disabled desktop effects.

Confirming due to upstream report. I wonder what is different here between our configurations. For me I don't have compiz near my system, nor is gnome anywhere near it, it is strictly a KDE3/KDE4 machine, with compositing enabled to the max.

Oddly enough, with compiz in KDE, alt-shift-tab works. (compiz breaks it in gnome, according to my comment above)

I can confirm this bug exists in both Gutsy and Hardy. When using compwiz, you can't go backwards with alt-tab. That is REALLY annoying. Just the kind of thing that makes a newbie like me want to give up and go back to windows.

Are you still experiencing this problem with current KDE4 packages? Seems to work for me in Hardy.

This works for me with latest Hardy/KDE4 as well.

Marking as Fix Released as 4.0.3 seems to fix this.
Please re-open this bug if you are still experiencing this issue with the latest packages.

I am currently experiencing this bug on Karmic but with gnome not kde. The system is up to date, and the bug was already present when i was still on jaunty. Should I reopen the bug?

You should file a separate bug against either metacity or compiz, depending on which you use.
