Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-kde

One of the nice features of OpenOffice.org is that it remembers the position of the user's cursor at last save, such that opening a document in Writer brings the user to the exact page they were working on at last save. This has worked on all versions of Writer for some time, including the Windows and Linux versions. However, under the version in Gutsy (and Feisty before it) this feature has not worked under KDE. It does work under Gnome as it always has, leading me to suspect a difference in the way openoffice.org-kde functions.

To see what I mean, try the following:

1) Log into Ubuntu (Gutsy or Feisty) under Gnome.
2) Open and edit a Writer document that is a few pages long. Save the doc when you are a couple pages into it (e.g., on page 3).
3) Close OOo.
4) Open OOo and re-open the document. It will open to page 3, right where you left off.

5) Now log in under KDE and open the doc. It will open to page 1. Rather Microsoft-Wordish. :-(

Note in the upstream version of OpenOffice it doesn't save the proper position under Gnome either, so this appears to be a ooo-build missing feature on KDE.

Currently with ooo-build and gnome the position in the document when it was saved is restored when you open the document but this does not appear to work when using OOo under KDE.

Reproducible: Always

I can also confirme this bug in Ubuntu 9.04 (Gnome)
It would not be such a big thing for me if I only worked on one document at a time.
But I alternate between several projects.

I can also confirm the issue persists on the KDE version in 9.04. Again, rather Word-ish behavior. I've tried to find a way to force OOo to use the Gnome interface under KDE, but I have yet to identify such a method

I have upgraded to OO 3.1 by adding the mirror:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
After the upgrade, it seems this little bug have been corrected.

Per Anders Strömer's comment about OOo 3.1 I am marking this bug as Fix Released. If anyone can still reproduce this issue with OOo 3.1 please feel free to reopen this bug report.

No problems here at OpenSUSE 11.2 RC2 and OOo 3.1.1. (Tested with writer and calc.) Maybe it's fixed or an ubuntu issue?
I assume you entered a Name in the OOo settings.
