Bug Description

I keep getting error messages about Ubuntu Package manager, whenever I open or try to download and packages. This is really annoying, because, it causes all other applications to just freeze up and stop working (i.e., no response), so I need to either kill the processes or do a cold reboot of the entire machine. I have removed Ubuntu, reinstalled the OS and tried to check my memory (250 Gb SSD HDD), but all to no avail. Any fixes would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hi Robert,

Thanks for reporting this issue with Ubuntu. The bug report indicates that freeradius failed to install but did not collect enough information to see why. A relevant snippet from "journalctl -xe" would likely help - we might only need the portion of it relating to the freeradius.service startup from the day you encountered the bug.

Occasionally these types of issues occur not due to a bug in the package in question, but due to other issues in the system. You mentioned you'd made several attempts, do you recall if freeradius was flagged in all of these instances or if it mentioned other software as well?

Separately, I notice from your dmesg output that your system experienced a kernel failure associated with NFSD's startup, and a second one involving a memory flushing issue. These seem not to have been fatal and offhand seem unlikely to be related to the package installation trouble, but if you're seeing hangs with other packages besides freeradius then these might be useful clues.
