Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Up until about the start of this week, the last.fm plugin would correctly send track details, however now it doesn't on either of my computers. It just claims 'Track submission failed too many times'. If I delete the submission cache, it'll work for a while, however the 'queued' track number just increases, as if it encountered an error, and eventually it stops trying. I had a look (with wireshark) at what was going over the wire, and it all looked correct, with last.fm returning an 'OK' response, however rhythmbox still doesn't realise it succeeded.

My guess is that the response from last.fm has changed slightly and rhythmbox isn't understanding it any more (although it still seems to be in keeping with the protocol).

This is Rhythmbox 0.11.2 on gutsy, both AMD64 and x86.

this might relate to this problem: http://www.last.fm/group/Rhythmbox/forum/8096/_/171373/2#f5766130

when changing the last.fm-password (and then of course also changing it in rhythmbox) scrobbling works, until you restart your computer. then the same problem reappears.

The symptoms sound very similar. When I deleted the cache, it worked for a while, and then stopped. I don't think changing the password/deleting the cache really fixes the problem, it just convinces rhythmbox to try again for a while. As I mentioned above, rb is scrobbling fine but not accepting the response from the server as a success, and so gives up trying after a while.

Same problem here - must be a change from last.fm? This has happened to me only recently (either today or yesterday).

This seems to have fixed itself, anyone else seeing that?

OK, now last.fm has changed whatever they changed to make it work again, it's happy again, so I'll close this. It does seem to imply a bug in the last.fm plugin, but one that's no longer causing trouble. Perhaps they'll be upgrading to the 1.2 version of the protocol in a future release anyway.

I encountered this problem just today (and yesterday). some tracks in the queue, status OK but no submissions. Also changing the password doesn't solve the problem (even not temporarily).

Sounds like a different problem, and most likely last.fm server issues.

I've been having this problem until today, when I changed my password on the last.fm site and in rhythmbox's preferences. Now, both the radio and the scrobble submissions are working. I haven't restarted yet -- I'll post back to see if still works after a restart.

I don't think this is a rhythmbox issue. Looking at my last.fm dashboard, nobody has scrobbled anything in the past few hours. So I think it's a last.fm fault.
