Scribus 1.5.6 unstable (?) freezes immediately at startup

Software and Synaptic say it's version 1.5.5., but when one installs, it appears to be 1.5.6 unstable. The shell briefly crashes and the window freezes. Can only be terminated by killing the process.

this has been reportedly long fixed in 21.04, and 20.10 went EOL in the meantime (and nowadays 21.04 too). so I'm closing this bug.
