Lubuntu 18.04 installer provided the possibility to create a LVM filesystem.
In Lubuntu 20.04+ installer this option is missing.

We don't have plans to add a dedicated LVM option, but you can always do it with manual partitioning.

This may change in the future.

Hmmm. I've been thinking on this and can't seem to shake the feeling we need to look further in 2024.

As you can see with https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/2048470 LVM is broken upstream. Are you suggesting that Lubuntu should have a standard LVM option once that gets fixed?

Hello,

unfortunately I could not login into the bug system. So I answer with
email. I could only take a look into bug 2048470. No question: this
should be fixed at first.

The LVM option in Lubuntu installer is highly desirable. So my
suggestion would be: yes, add the LVM option to the Lubuntu installer as
it was already in 18.04.

Thank you

Wolfgang Schwarz

Not a duplicate, since this bug is about LUKS2, where LVM is available, just doesn't find the encrypted partition, and LUKS2 didn't ask for a password.

So this smells as if LUKS2 hasn't been implemented, just offered as a choice in the manual partitioner (while the automatic partitioner offers working LUKS encryption).

LUKS2 works just fine in the manual partitioner of Calamares, but LVM does not last I tried. If you use LUKS2 *without* LVM, everything works great. I'm not sure why the upstream Calamares devs exposed LVM in the user interface when it was still incomplete, but they did, and I think it's *still* incomplete in the version that ended up on the released 24.04 ISO.
