Bug Description

When you adjust the picture's Brightness & Contrast, it remains about the change. The picture only changes when the OK button is pressed. In the previous version it was interactive. The same goes for the Hue & Saturation option.

Ubuntu version: 18.04.5 (64 bit)
Pinta version : 1.7
Mono version : Mono JIT compiler version 6.12.0.90 (tarball Fri Sep 4 14:01:23 UTC 2020)

I couldn't reproduce this in Ubuntu 20.04, so I'll need to try setting up an 18.04 VM.
Could you let me know which desktop environment you're using? (Gnome, KDE, etc)

Hello Cameron

The desktop is the default one that is install with Ubuntu 18.04
(Gnome). I did not install any funnies that I can recall that should
influence the display. As mentioned, the previous  version 1.6 word
correctly in that the picture changed interactively.

Playing again with the feature, it seems that not all images are
affected as much the one I worked with. I attached a sample that
illustrate the issue very well. In my case it is a snapshot from a
video. I then changed the snapshot to black and white. On my machine the
sepia background changed to a faded blue tinted one. To improve B&W
printing, I then use the contrast option. It hardly changes
interactively, but when pressing the OK, the background becomes white
and the printout is good. I tested Pinta on totally different machine
also running 18.04 with the same results.

I hope this will assist you to fix the problem.

Thanks, it is behaving as expected with my test machines, so I think I'll need to set up an 18.04 virtual machine

I'm not sure what might be different in your setup - are you using the snap or flatpak packages of Pinta?

I have used Ubuntu Software utility to install it. Ubuntu 20.xx I am
not sure what is behind Ubuntu Software Center.

I update the Pinta using the installation procedure as stated in "
https://launchpad.net/~pinta-maintainers/+archive/ubuntu/pinta-stable".
You can see the action and results in the "Re-installation Output"
file. More interesting, I found that when I open the file with the Image
Viewer, it looks like, as expected, in the attached file "ImageViewer".
When I click Option->print, the picture change to state before the
contrast was adjusted in Pinta. See "ImageViewerPrint". In the previous
version 1.6, this did not happened. May this is a clue that you can help
you to resolve the issue.

Like with many funnies in software, I adapted a simple workaround by
just pressing OK and retry if the result is not satisfactory. However,
if you required any more info, I am happy to help.

Do you see the same results in Pinta when using the Help -> About dialog? It looks like the window manager is dimming the background when a modal dialog is opened, which isn't something Pinta can really control
