Bug Description

Ive just received a new Dell Inspiron 1525. The wired NIC is a Marvell 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (rev 12).
Ubuntu 7.10 recognizes the card and loads the sky2 driver. I've no error in dmesg or syslog, but the card cannot obtain an address from the network. Works fine in Windows with same cable/network.

This problem seems to be resolved by the 2.6.24 kernel (info from the driver dev and Tim Gardner).
I followed this post's instructions to install a more recent kernel under Gutsy.

The same with me.
I tried ubuntu 7.10, cannot get an ip from ethernet card.
Then I installed Hardy. No problems with ethernet, but no sound and some other instabilities.
Then i installed Debian in this computer. I got ethernet functioning after adding the sk98lin driver. But I got a lot of problems with Debian: cannot suspend, no sound, no wireless, no webcam. etc.: too much work, so i went again for ubuntu.
I used ubuntu-dell-1525n-intelvideo-reinstall.iso from dell to reinstall, ethernet did go at home, but after a dist-upgrade, now at work (behind a proxy) again ethernet cannot get an ip from the server.
I will try again at home.
Too many problems for a computer that comes with ubuntu preinstalled!
I do not want to install 2.6.24 (no sound), until it is more stable.
I'll try again to install the sk98lin driver.

I'm having the same problem with a Dell Inspiron 1545 but with revision 13 of the Marvell 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller.

Ubuntu 9.04, 2.6.27-14-generic

dmesg shows:

[ 5.032056] sky2 0000:09:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
[ 5.032088] sky2 0000:09:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[ 5.032170] sky2 0000:09:00.0: v1.22 addr 0xf68fc000 irq 18 Yukon-2 FE+ rev 0
[ 5.033487] sky2 eth0: addr 00:23:ae:1c:be:63

I can't obtain an IP address with DHCP. Cable is good, but there is no link.
