Bug Description

I'm noticing that if I start to preview a track, then I exit Mixxx, I get quite a loud pop in my headphones.

We do not fade out on exit, but this "pop" should not be louder than the audio played before.
Is the "pop" louder than the audio or just a click/crackle?

I can imagine that the headphones playing an uninitialized buffer.

Which audio API do you use? Are all APIs affected? Which soundcard do you use?

Yes, a louder very brief static like pop, rather than a non-0 last value from a bad cut of a sample pop.

Straight ALSA, the headphone DAC (channel3/4) on a Reloop Beatmix 4.

I've not got audio routing to it via pulse or JACK working before, but I can maybe find time try with asla_out in the next few days if it's needed.

No need to configure JACK. Does it also pop if you use the pulse device?
This can be used when Mixxx is started from the command line.

Changed in mixxx:
importance: Undecided → High

I've tried again with setting headphones to pulse (with also restarting the app), and I see "ALSA plug-in [mixxx] etc" source in pavucontrol, but I don't get any output when a preview track is playing.

(I also see the ALSA plug-in Snapclient source for the Snapcast stream from my mpd server, and that does give output when I play that.)

I got pulse working for headphone out, but I've been unable to replicate the pop on exit after a nubmer of tries.
