Binary package hint: gnomad2

I'm not kidding you, I'm not a troll and I'm not new to GNU/Linux.

I was using my girlfriend's laptop and most of her personals files were suddenly deleted: I was transferring some Ogg files from the computer to my portable media player through Gnomad2, when the computer froze; I restarted X by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and when I got back, almost EVERYTHING in her personal folder was deleted: KDE config files (~/.kde/*), emails, documents, videos, the Trash bin, etc...

The only open program was Gnomad, nothing else. Also, I had just installed Gnomad2. 100% of the installed software comes from the official/default repositories.

I'm the only who administrates her computer, not even she does, and I'm sure I didn't do anything wrong.

By the way, is there any hope to recover this information?

Oh, see uses Kubuntu Gutsy + KDE 3.

If you were moving the files around (vs. copying) and were using command line as su (super user) it's possible you inadvertenly moved the home directory elsewhere.

Search for the missing files elsewhere on the hard disk, they may just be in a different directory.

Just an idea, I've seen this happen two other times to people that used terminal sessions as super user and " forgot" about it, then running other file manager apps and ending up with a broken system.

I turned on the computer, plugged the player and ran Gnomad2. That's all I did before restarting X.

These files don't seem to be in the computer anymore. The trash was emptied and /home/lost+found is empty too.

Something tried to delete the files in the home folder, and it was not me. Folders by "M" and onward are still there, but every hidden file (~/.*) and directories that begin by L were all deleted.

The global system is OK. The only weird things are on the local folder.

Please, forget about it. I think I deleted the ".." folder through Gnomad2.

How do I close this issue?
