summary states it all, the whole package for ALSA is now with v1.0.16, and out of the release candidate stages.

alsa-driver 1.0.16rc2 + hg is already in hardy. There are quite a few patches beyond 1.0.16 that will be in hardy's final alsa-driver package. Just sit tight.

I know, except for i am actually doing this so i can request that it be backported to Gutsy, and hopefully after that, possibly feisty.

anyone with a laptop that requires a new version of ALSA will probably also require a new kernel, so they'll need gutsy/hardy anyway

True, however gutsy needs an update since it's on a fairly old release, and i was aiming to request enough to help, because not all users of ubuntu will update to version 8.04 until their graphics drivers are confirmed to work, like the Radeon drivers.

Can the Ubuntu devs make sure Hardy has the recent patch for the AD1988 codec as detailed here:
