tty not working

Bug Description

I am facing this strange issue. the tty where working earlier when I used to press ctrl + alt + F1 thru F6. Now, suddenly it has stopped working and seems I am not the only one facing this issue. I asked on the forums and there are some people who have this problem.

I am using ubuntu gutsy 7.10 amd64. My graphics card is ati x1400 and I am using proprietary driver. The tty were working with this driver before something broke the tty.

I have exactly the same problem .
It was working before , i guess some of the recent updates broke it .

I am using ubuntu 7.10 32bit on a lenovo T61p laptop .
I use nvidia-new driver , graphics card nvidia quadro 570M .

By some way my tty's got disabled at ubuntu 9.10.

The only way to get them work is: sudo start tty1 .... tty6

"sudo initctl list" shows all tty are stop/waiting. Why?

Using nvidia graphic card.
