Hi Michael,

Thank you for filing a bug and reporting the issue in MAAS.

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/zzcfJCrBDn/ from the logs posted I see that ipmi-locate segfaulted.

Is this reproducible? If so I suggest it's a bug in freeipmi-tools

Hi Adam,

Thanks for pointing that out. I complained about free-ipmi segfaulting on Dells a while back, but let it go because it was only ever seen on very old systems with iDRAC6:

I've updated that bug as well...

Hi Michael,

One further... in my bug, I found that this wasn't an issue in Bionic with an older version of freeipmi-tools. Can you check and see if you can successfully commission one of those using bionic as the commissioning version instead of focal?

@Jeff, @Michael, are you ok to mark this as a dup of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freeipmi/+bug/1875771 ?

It seems that is the root cause, and activity has moved to that bug.
Thx

After discussing, plan is to first test with a fixed freeipmi-tools (fixed with the patch described in LP# 1875771), and validate that this truly fixes the issue.
Keeping at "incomplete" for now.

I have validated that this issue is now fixed with the current ephemeral image and the power configuration is properly configured during enlistment in MAAS 2.8.2.
