Bug Description

[Ubuntu Hardy]

While trying to print anything, the printer give me blank pages.

The problem is the same with 2 printers I've tried :
- HP LaserJet 1300 -> LPT port
- Brother HL6050DN ->TCP/IP on the network

The 2 printers work fine with other PCs running Ubuntu Gutsy

Thank you for your bug report. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. I have classified this bug as a bug in cupsys. I couldn't reproduce this on Hardy. Can you please follow the instruction from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrintingBugInfoScript and attach the log file to the bug report?

Thank you!

The installation is a fresh installation from CD (alpha 3).
Maybe the problem is not present with a Hardy system upgraded from gutsy ...?

There is a known problem with HPLIP 2.7.12 when printing to some LaserJet's and using A4 size paper an extra sheet is being printed. This will be fixed in the next release of HPLIP. Sorry about that I can't say for sure why we didn't catch that earlier.

However this would not effect your Brother printer.

We'll be working with Till to get the next release into the Hardy Alpha, so hopefully it should be fixed in Hardy soonish.

Iulian, be sure to be using A4 paper and you may be able to reproduce it.

All the best,

Aaron

Confirmed with LaserJet 1020 using A4 paper prints extra sheet. Fix committed in the next release of HPLIP.

Thanks for the update, but the problem here, is that the printer print
"only" a blank page (so it's impossible to print from this computer...)

I haven't been able to reproduce this with hardy 4. You may have a system problem if both printers aren't working.

My daughter is having this problem with an HP Deskjet 3650. Acts like like is printing something, moves the printhead back and forth like it is printing something, but no ink ever hits the paper. It has done this ever since I switched her from Windows to Uuntu karmic. Printer still works OK when we hook it to the Windows box.

This sounds exactly like the problem reported in beg 409962, except that it is still happening even with packages where this problem is supposed to be fixed. We are running karmic with cups 1.4.1-5ubuntu2.1 and libpoppler 0.12.0-0ubuntu2.1 and hplip3.9.8-1 ubuntu2. We never had an earlier version of Ubuntu installed on this system, so I can't tell if it used to work sometime in the past. The printer still works perfectly when we hook it up to a Windows system.

If this is the same problem, it would be a ghostscript rather than a cups issue. The symptom of moving the printhead but not printing any paper kind of hint at a hplip or ghostscript issue. We need to get this fixed, tax season is fast approaching and she needs a printer.

One thing you can try is to install latest hplip from
