Bug Description

Hi,

I have the following environment:

Ubuntu 18.04.5
MAAS version: 2.4.2-7034-g2f5deb8b8-0ubuntu1

ubuntu version: 18.4.5 LTS
kernel version: 4.15.0-112-generic
qemu version: 2.11.1
libvirt version: 4.0.0

Issue:-

When I deploy the KVM virtual machines after commissioned its failing with following error:-

smartctl is failing to validate the /dev/vda disk so its skipping.

Error:

[Error No:2 ] No such file or directory

Failed command : ['curtin','curthooks']

Without further logs it's hard to say whether this really is a duplicate of the by-id path; but I highly suspect that MAAS deploying virtual machines with type virtio disks is not creating the VM disks with serial attributes; and this prevented curtin from successfully installing.
