Bug Description

I have not fully investigated.

Not sure at this point.

During partial upgrade shim-signed gave error and got notice after reboot.
efi seems to work correctly - I have dual boot.

The error in your log is:

Setting up shim-signed (1.42+15+1552672080.a4a1fbe-0ubuntu2) ...
Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
grub-install: error: cannot open `/boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi': Read-only file system.
dpkg: error processing package shim-signed (--configure):
installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

Your ESP (/boot/efi) must be mounted read-write at the time of upgrade. This is how Ubuntu configures it by default.

Changed in shim-signed (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
