Now it happened again. Haven't seen it for 2 months or so. Haven't been able to reproduce it.

Only this was logged in .xsession-errors:

(gnome-terminal:10081): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_window_set_default_size: assertion `height >= -1' failed

dpkg -l|grep gnome-terminal
ii gnome-terminal 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 The GNOME 2 terminal emulator application

I'm seeing this too. I can't seem to reproduce it on demand, but sometimes the tab will detach. I don't select "Detach Tab" from the menu, and I do not have a keyboard shortcut defined for the action.

I'll add another comment if I can narrow down what action causes this to happen.

I see this several times a day, but I use the gnome terminal with 10 or so tabs on a daily basis. I also am seeing the assert message in the .xsession-errors log.

Same here - it's pretty irritating when you're jumping from tab to tab. I've checked that the "detach tab" keyboard shortcut is disabled - which it is.

(gnome-terminal:8976): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_window_set_default_size: assertion `width >= -1' failed

Any hints on how to debug this further would be appreciated.

I'd just like to confirm this bug. I've been seeing it every day since I upgraded to hardy.

I also have this. when trying to go to a tab with ctrl+pageup/down the tabs often detach for no reason.

May someone of you forward this upstream then? I don't get the bug and there's no instructions on how to do it, for forwarding instructions please have a look to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME ; leaving this as incomplete until that, thanks.

It looks that upstream has a fix:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=529908#c52

Could it be packaged for Jaunty?

What is the status on getting this fixed in Jaunty? Any chance of that? Is this already fixed in Karmic, or is it only fixed in the upstream code at the moment?

This is fixed in karmic, but I nominated it for jaunty. The importance of this bug is low, but the patch ([1]) is only a few lines.

You may also comment on bug #385188 and request 2.16.3 instead of 2.16.2 to be packaged for jaunty, which also includes the patch for this bug.
