Bug Description

I was just debugging why several programs stopped working correctly.

Reason: Lubuntu 20.04 mounts a tmpfs on /tmp and thus limits tmp-space to only a few GB, which are easily consumed completely e.g. by video production or creating installation images.

This should really be a selectable option on installation process, since it really can break functioning and stability of the whole system.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1888526/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

default is not use tmpfs on /tmp, see bug 1533639

Calamares is an installer; it doesn't create installation images; but writes the squashfs to the drive selected for install. It doesn't create videos. It's also not usually present on an installed system

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1888526

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Chris,

it would make everyone's life easier if you bothered to read and understand the bug report before answering it.

I didn't say that calamares created installation images or videos.

I said that creating installation images or videos are applications that break the idea of having a tmpfs on /tmp.

However, I've reported that bug upstream where they explained that calamares has this behaviour since 2014 for no particular reason, just because it has been like this since 2014, and it does this only after detecting an SSD as a installation medium.

The upstream maintainers will take care of the issue. No need to wonder about video production.
