OK, that's not the problem...

Next please try disabling Bluetooth and unplugging any USB keyboard/mouse. Now when the screen lock times out does it stay off?

I see no diff and screen lock still not working after Bluetooth off and removing all USB devices.
I even tried removing my docking station and no diff :(

I am seeing this exact behavior as well.

In my case, hitting Super-L will blank the screen for a half second, and when it comes back, all of my hidden windows (windows behind other windows) have been brought forward.

I need to repeat this process and hit Super-L a total of four times before I see the lockscreen.

Yuri, are you able to lock the desktop at all by hitting Super-L several times?

Yuri Weinstein (yuri-weinstein) wrote :

No I can't.
I see screen freeze, then timing out and then blank default color and immediately after that unfreeze

I've noticed that when the computer is idle, it tries to lock the screen, but a few seconds later, it returns to the desktop.

There seems to be some process that prevents the screen lock when it occurs.

Good news, i find the issue, the problem are the gnome extensions, back up your .local/share/gnome-shell/ data and erase all your extensions, restart the shell and try to lock screen (it works for me).

After, install one by one extensions and, for each, try lock screen since find the buggie extension.

Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt) wrote :

That's a good point. A few people are finding buggy extensions (especially dash-to-panel) are causing a crash on screen lock, which causes a blink and the lock to fail. That's mostly covered by bug 1877774.

So yes, please do make sure you remove all your extensions as part of the testing process.

Hi again, in my case, Dash-to-panel is the guilty, installed by synaptic... removing it and installing from Gnome.org solve the problem.

In my case I was able to narrow down the problem to the gTile extension. (I've never had Dash-to-panel installed.)

Now all I have to do is find a way to live without gTile :) Thanks for the tip!

Yuri, this sounds like a possible duplicate of some existing bug (like maybe bug 1877774 or bug 1877760). To help us confirm that please:

1. Run this command and send us the output:

   gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell

2. Follow these instructions:
