Printing problems - margins, offsets, missing parts, etc

When trying to print PDF files from two separate computers using Ubuntu 7.10, the margins are always wrong, parts are missing at the top and bottom of the page and a PDF I just printed was even worse - it was offset to the side so badly that most of the print was missing. Also when trying to print from Firefox, the top and bottom parts of the page (usually a line or so) are often missing now matter how much I try to tweak margin settings wherever I find them.

Open Office is also seeming to have problems printing some times although this may be unrelated and due to Open Office, like duplex printing the other day was all over the place (out of order).

not sure if this helps, but some more information. I am in Australia so will have an Australian printer with Australian regional settings, I guess that translates to 'British' A4 size if that makes any difference.

Can you email me some documents that I can try and reproduce this on? So far I haven't been able to reproduce this printing problem on A4 paper.

Hi.. thanks for replying.

It happens on *all* documents, any PDF or web page.

Perhaps it would be better if I sent the configuration file for the
driver? Where would I find this?

I've problems under ubuntu intrepid with configuring margins for A4. Either with openoffice or Adobe Reader the margins are not correct and the print-output is wrong: Text will be cutten on the margins. Any idea?

Seem to be having the same problem as wf. I always had top margin set at 0.5 but since upgrading to Ibex I have to set margin to 1.3cm for it to print everything. I am using 64-bit Ibex, but replicated this on the 32-bit version also. Printers are both HP. Used a C6180 and C5280

I can print using a 0.3 top margin without anything disappearing. I don't need it any closer to the top than that!

I have not had any problems since, this can be closed.. Haven't used evince although other applications all work fine. Better on Linux in fact than Windows.

HPLIP is *fantastic* - even better than windows - it just *works* - just sits in the tray and does it's thing - and my network printer happily prints away and everything queues up fine from all computers. Love it!!!

I'm using HPLIP with a HP DeskJet D2660, it's printing always with 2.0cm left margin, which is annoying because this printer was used for printing cards, then I suggested to use Linux for that machine and had to switch back to windows because we could not set any margins for printing.

We print directly from Firefox so it should be a cross-platform solution, but the impossibility of setting margins is a stop for us to use Linux :(
