Thanks for the bug report.

Please:

1. Uninstall all gnome-shell extensions, other than those with "Ubuntu" in their name, and reboot. We need to exclude extensions first because they cause so many bugs. And you have a lot of extensions installed:

'<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>@gmail.com', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', 'gnome-shell-trash-extension', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', 'max-window-effect@nls1729', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', '<email address hidden>', 'fully-transparent-top-bar@aunetx', '<email address hidden>', 'desktop-icons@csoriano'

2. If the problem still happens with no extensions after rebooting then please run:

   lspci -k > lspcik.txt
   journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text files here.

OK. If you can figure out which extension(s) make it slow then please report the problem to the extension author(s).

As it appears the problem persisted. The problem was in the upower service and i managed to fix it by installing the file containing the missing libusbmuxd.so.4 file from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libu/libusbmuxd/libusbmuxd4_1.0.10-2_amd64.deb

Now everything works as it should

Was that used by some extension?

Can you please detail what "the problem" was, or where you got that info?

Of course, my apologies.

While i was researching the i noticed that i had a failed service (systemctl --failed). The failed service was upower and when i tried to restart/stop/disable it i was getting errors. The removal of the package upower resulted to removal of gnome desktop. Reinstalling gnomr desktop didn't fix the problem. Only after seeing the output of

ldd usr/lib/upower/upowerd

i noticed that there was a missing library which i found it in the file http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libu/libusbmuxd/libusbmuxd4_1.0.10-2_amd64.deb
