Bug Description

Binary package hint: cupsys

I share my USB HP Photosmart printer using system-config-printer and it works like a charm if the printers is turned on before booting ubuntu. But if the printer was turned off while booting and I turn it on later, I cannot print to it from another computer, the sharing does not work until I restart cups (/ect/init.d/cupsys restart). The printer works on the local computer but cups does not seem to share it since it can be seen from other computers until I restart cups.

You said "The printer works on the local computer but cups does not seem to share it since it can be seen from other computers until I restart cups.". Do you mean CANNOT be seen?

Can you look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems and see if you can get some more info? CUPS error_log might be a good place to start.

Dems,

Please run hp-check -t and post the output. Also please specify which printer you are using, and how you are specifically sharing your printer over the network. Can you ping the printer even if you can't connect to it?

Hi im using an Hp Photosmart C4280 printer and i shared it using
system-config-printer.py 0.7.75 in gutsy and checking the "shared" box
on the server. I used the same system-config-printer on the client
computer to connect. I do not know how to ping the printer ...
Im sorry i do not have the hp-check tool installed and I can't find it
in the repositories. But I have tried hp-info, don't know it it
helps... Here is the result :
