Entire system freezes when Chrome freezes when I try to quit the app by clicking on the X button, resulting in an unresponsive machine.

I had to hit Control+Alt+F1 for the screen to turn black because GNOME would not respond either, and then the ttyl screen disappeared and I was put back in the login screen.
